Five statements about how Samik Bhattacharya has exercised responsibility, each followed by the record that supports it.

His authority is organisational before it is electoral.
Bhattacharya has held one Assembly seat for one term. The greater part of his record is made up of positions inside the party structure — the offices that allocate responsibility, run districts and manage cadre — rather than positions won at the ballot.

He was chosen without contest, twice.
Both of the two most senior positions he currently holds were conferred unopposed. In each case no rival nomination was filed. This is a documented procedural fact rather than an assessment of standing, but it is the kind of fact that party organisations record and read carefully.

His principal instrument in public has been explanation.
For four years he was the office holder formally responsible for stating the West Bengal unit's position — on television, at the press conference, and in Bengali as readily as in English. Press profiles written at the time of his 2025 elevation consistently described him as an orator and noted the moderate register of his public speech; those are characterisations by commentators rather than claims made here.

The two named parliamentary responsibilities on his record are a departmentally related standing committee covering the Union Home Ministry, and membership of a national medical institute's governing body. Neither is ceremonial: both carry scheduled scrutiny obligations.

- Member of the multi-party parliamentary delegation led by Ravi Shankar Prasad to the European Union, the United Kingdom, Italy and Denmark in May 2025, presenting India's position on Operation Sindoor after the Pahalgam attack.
He held the state organisation through its first election in government.
He took charge of the West Bengal unit roughly nine months before the state's Assembly election, and remained state president through the campaign, the poll and the formation of the state government that followed. The result is a matter of public record; the attribution of it to any one office holder is not, and is not claimed here.

- Two phases, 23 and 29 April 2026, for all 294 Assembly seats. Counting for 293 seats on 4 May; a full repoll at Falta declared on 24 May.

- BJP 208 seats and 45.92 per cent of the vote; All India Trinamool Congress 80 seats and 40.68 per cent. Recorded turnout 93.71 per cent.
- Government
- The BJP formed a government in West Bengal for the first time; Suvendu Adhikari was sworn in as Chief Minister on 9 May 2026.

- Bhattacharya continues as state president and as a member of the Rajya Sabha.
